Oh well... Been finding information of our Singapore athlete on google and... Well... It sort of broke my heart. It's all about foreign talent and all. First, we gotta be proud of Li Jiawei being the flag-bearer at Beijing Olympics. But in the Today Paper of 11 July, a forum writer saw a talk show `A date with the masters - an alternative ping pong route' on CCTV4 (wonder if this is really true actually) in Guangzhou on 26 June in which Li Jiawei and Feng Tian Wei were interviewed. Li Jiawei said: `as a Beijinger, and a Chinese national (Zhongguo ren), Beijing is my home ground and I hope to do well'.
You know... It's sort of sad about all the foreign talent scheme when you read about all these news. I mean... Is Singapore really taking other countries' third rate athlete and breeding them to be our own athlete? Well... At least I am happy we have a sailing team with pure blue Singaporeans. If they win a medal, then I will be proud of them. Other sport? I don't know any more... Rather, other than the athlete, the whole foreign talent thing is making me feel Singapore is some where I don't know anymore. I guess strange and distant would be the words to describe this feeling.
Interesting fact. Tao Li is the same age as me! Winning thousands of dollars when I am still spending thousands od dollars studying... Nice to know that...
